Getting into science

I have a psychology undergraduate degree and a public health masters but I want to do something more scientific. Working in labs or doing research. Or a role in the hospital in transfusion science. Every option I look into requires a biomedical degree. I applied for student finance again to do a biomed degree but I got rejected. Any advice on how I can get into a science role without having to do another degree? Or how I could get funded for a biomed degree as a second degree

I suspect your best bet would be a level 6 biomedical apprenticeship - Biomedical scientist (level 6) - apprenticeship training course

The best way in would be to apply for medical laboratory assistant roles in a hospital or wait a few months for the direct entry apprentice roles to be advertised.

Hi there,

Unfortunately, if you have already completed an undergraduate degree in the UK, then you aren't eligible for funding for another. My advice would be to look into short courses or CPD that can help you get into lab work - the above course looks very interesting and might help you get there!

Good luck!

Only from student loan. Apprenticeship levy funding can be used if the previous degree is not considered too close to the proposed apprenticeship.

The course I have provided is a full BSc, not a short course (that if you are offering LJMU advice I would investigate as it is an apprenticeship offered by the university).

Look for an apprenticeship.
