University of Nottingham accommodation advice

I'm thinking of going to UoN for my first year, I was wondering if it would be better to stay on or off campus as I've heard private off-campus accommodations are usually second and third year students. Social life is also a big thing for me and I would just like some advice from anyone who is currently studying there on some good options to consider, thankyouu (my course would be on the university park campus if that helps)

Hello!

It really depends on several factors. The off-campus accommodation options advertised by the university are usually close to either Jubilee or University Park Campus, so you would not be missing out in that case.

I believe that the most important decision is to decide whether you would want to go for self-catered accommodation (more flexible, you cook your own meals and so on) or catered (more straight-forward since the meals are served at specific time intervals), and then move on from that point.

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask!

All the best,
Abian.

Hi, my Daughter is at Nottingham and didn't get to firm her accommodation until the last minute as she didn't have all her offers in at the time. Thus she wasn't in what we considered would have been her preferred block etc.. However, her experience of being on campus/catered was a really good one. Also, I'm going to say that her picking moving in day as the Friday was a huge win too. Those that arrived on the Friday in her block seemed to cling together a little and as more arrived the bigger the group clinging together became 🙂 they all went down to halls for meals together, then ventured out together and it was a great bonding experience. However, her friends from home who opted for off campus got off to a slower start with them not having this whole huge communal reason to meet/greet/eat together. I've never been so pleased in my life to see how that all worked out. So from my own experience for my Daughter I'm honestly going to say on campus 🙂 Plus, sorry to say it - but you unfortunately do need to make some friends that first term who you'd be fine to enter into second year accommodation with and there is a little pressure in this regard (that's every uni from what i understand). so the more people you have access to faster, the better in my opinion 🙂 🙂 Good luck - you will like it there, it's a lovely campus!
