UK Student finance with parents abroad

Hi, I’m just wondering if anyone knows how I’ll be able to receive student finance as my parents both live abroad. My mum and I have British nationality so I have been assessed as eligible to pay home tuition fees at my uni. Student finance UK needs national insurance numbers and income details from my parents, but as they don’t live in the uk, they don’t have national insurance numbers or a british address.

What do I need to fill in at my student finance application? Is there any other way to share income details? Will I still be eligible to receive student finance?

Hi there,

If your parents live abroad they would need to complete the PFF2 form and they can get the form from the Gov.UK website. Is this for the 2024/25 academic year? As they live abroad they would not need to provide a National Insurance Number on the form.

Thanks, Drew

Hi, thanks for your reply! It’s for 25/26 academic year. I know you can’t apply for student finance yet, but I just want to make sure everything is sorted properly first!

Hi there,

Once the applications open you will be able to get the PFF2 form from the website. When your sponsors complete the form the will have to convert the currency of the country they are in to pounds in the UK. They will also have to submit evidence of the tax year 2023/24. In the UK we have a P60 so it would be the equivalent evidence from their country.

Thanks, Drew
