Student finance for someone already have a bachelor overseas

Hi everyone,

I have ILR status (settlement) in UK. I have a bachelor degree in Law from overseas (Turkey) and also a diploma on Web design and coding from Turkey, equivalent HND in UK. I would like to get my bachelor degree on Computer Science or Software Engineering in UK. I know having a degree before prevents you from getting student finance but I saw there is an exception and that is STEM courses that includes Computer Science.

Can I get at least tuition finance from student finance?

If you can reply my question I would be grateful

Thanks a lot
Hi there,

When would the course start and would it be a full time or part time course? Can you confirm what university you want to attend, the full name of the course and the duration of the course?

Thanks, Drew

Hi there,

Thanks, Computer Science is an exception when studied part-time.

So, that's definitely an option for you here. This means you'll be entitled to funding regardless of your previous study.

Thanks, Graeme

Thank you for your reply Graeme. So just to clarify I can only take part time computer science courses not full time? And can I also get maintenance loan for example Aston University Computer Science BSc part time ?

Yes, that's right - the course needs to be part-time for it to be an exception.

Also, yes, you can get a Maintenance Loan so long as the course isn't distance learning.

Thanks, Graeme
