UEA

Who is planning on going to UEA in September? I've applied for psychology, if anyone is studying this currently let me know how you're finding it and the university itself
I have an offer for accounting and finance, idk much abt it tho so not sure if I'm going there
My daughter is a first year at UEA studying Psychology. She really enjoys it. I think one of the best things about the course is that all the Psychology courses have a common first year so you can swap. Also the whole of first year is one module so you only need to pass overall which takes the pressure off. They are some ungraded assignments first so you get feedback and know what is expected of you She will only have one exam this year, the rest is reports and assignments but only two per term. If I compare this to my son who is in a final year at another uni, he had three exams in the first January with no mock tests and he need to pass each individual exam to pass the year.
Back to UEA, there are lots of clubs and societies to join, everything is easy to get to on campus and the bus service into Norwich is great. There is even a late bus. Overall it’s a great uni experience.

Hi there,

Great to hear you’re considering UEA for psychology—it’s a fantastic place to study. I’m currently at UEA, and I can say the university has an incredible vibe with supportive lecturers, great facilities, and a strong research focus. The psychology department is particularly well-regarded, with lots of opportunities for hands-on experience, research projects, and even work placements if you’re interested in that.

The campus itself is a great place to be—very green, with a real sense of community, and Norwich is a brilliant city for students. It’s vibrant but not overwhelming, so you get a nice balance between a lively student life and a comfortable place to study.

If you have any specific questions about the course or life at UEA, feel free to ask! 😊

Best,
Daniel

Hi! I can see Daniel has replied but wanted to comment as well, since I've just graduated from studying psychology at UEA 😊

I loved the course. We had lectures and seminars, which started as hour-long lectures in the first year and then moved to two-hour long lectures in the second year. The first year was all about giving us a broad overview of psychology and introducing us to research methods and report-writing.

Second and third year really allows you to tailor your choices with the modules! If you haven't already, definitely check out the available modules. I did the placement module in my second year to prepare me for my placement year, and in the third I did: forensic psychology, the psychology of mental health, psychology of gender and social perception and behaviour. I really enjoyed all of them, especially forensic psychology because they brought in actual forensic psychologists to teach us about their job. The psychology of mental health also focused on the idea and definitions of mental health within different organisations and what that means for us as patients, clients, service-users... so interesting!

As for UEA on the whole, I love living here. The Psychology Society put on a events throughout the year but the campus is always bustling with students and there's so much to do. Yesterday I was in the library and a society had set up a little stand in our Student Union building to celebrate the Chinese New Year- there's always something going on. It's nice to just look out over the lake in the summer when you're stressing over assignments, or during late September during welcome week with the new friends you've made.

I had a really great time at UEA studying psychology if you haven't already noticed! 😅 I'm staying on to do a masters in Economics now, but if you have any more questions about the course or UEA in general just let me or Daniel know!
