Stuck on what I want to do.

I am a currently studying level 3 computing (final year) and I want to go down a career path in the IT industry and I am currently stuck deciding if I want to go to university to do Information Technology and Business Management or maybe to just find a Junior Level Job at an IT company. I have applied to the university's and have got all my offers back.

Is there anyone who has had a similar experience and could possibly give me some tips and feedback on what I should maybe do.

Keep going through the university process and have a firm and insurance choice picked by spring. But also keep the employment option open. Focus on your grades now and decide which way you ultimately want to go in the summer. This is not a decision you need to make now and it is best to keep your options open

Hi @wa7sonn005,

Although I'm not studying the exact same course, I still have some general recommendations for you!

I recommend not making any concrete decisions for now if you're unsure. Since university does not begin for a while, you have time to research further into the various avenues. Just make sure to choose your firm and insurance option as the other reply has stated.

When it comes to making the decision, I recommend thinking about your end goal. Will not having a degree hinder your ability to be promote further in the field? However an apprectiship lets you get a hands on experience, while being paid. Here are some of the main points to weigh up with a degree vs apprectiship:

Learning style: Do you prefer learning through classes/ lectures, or would you prefer to have a strong practical element.

Cost: A great benefit of apprectiship is being paid, however it's important to consider you can use student finance options to help cover university costs.

Career paths: Which will lead you towards your ideal career goal.

Job variety: If your unsure of the exact job you wish to go into, a degree is a great option as you will learn a wide range of skills, especially with developing business management skills as these are applicable to a wide range of fields.

I recommend making a list of important factors to yourself and researching into both avenues further. Both an apprectiship and degree are great options. I also recommend looking into degree apprectiship as this gives you an excellent balance of both options.

Good luck with your decision, please feel free to ask me any questions,
-Sophia (Business and Management)
