Should I Apply to Lower-Requirement Universities With AAB Grades?

Hi everyone,

I’ve already achieved my A-level grades (AAB) and I’m applying to study finance and accounting at university. I’m mainly looking at universities with entry requirements of AAB and one AAA. However, I’m wondering if I should include a lower-requirement university (e.g., ABB) as a safety option.

The thing is, none of the other universities really appeal to me. Do you think it’s risky to only apply to four AAB and one AAA universities? What are the chances of me not getting in anywhere if I do this?

Since the UCAS deadline is coming up very soon, I’d really appreciate quick responses or advice, especially from people who’ve been in a similar position.

Thanks in advance!

Personally, I don't think it is risky applying to 4 unis where their entry requirements are the same as your achieved grades. If the ABB uni doesn't appeal to you, don't apply. Applying to the AAA uni as an aspirational choice shouldn't really be an issue.

All your offers will be unconditional as you have achieved your grades. There is no need for firm and insurance, so applying to a uni below your achieved grades is not necessary, especially if you're not a fan.

The only way I would say maybe apply to the ABB uni is if you are applying to an extremely competitive uni for a very competitive course. But you should have an advantage over the other applicants who just have predicted grades.

Good luck.

Hi there,

As you have already achieved your grades, applying to a lower-requirement University doesn't make much sense, especially if none are really sticking out to you! The Universities where you reach the requirements would not reject your application to them unless your personal statement wasn't to their liking - so just make sure your personal statement is the best it can be!

Good luck!
