Should I Apply to Lower-Requirement Universities With AAB Grades?

Hi everyone,

I’ve already achieved my A-level grades (AAB) and I’m applying to study finance and accounting at university. I’m mainly looking at universities with entry requirements of AAB and one AAA. However, I’m wondering if I should include a lower-requirement university (e.g., ABB) as a safety option.

The thing is, none of the other universities really appeal to me. Do you think it’s risky to only apply to four AAB and one AAA universities? What are the chances of me not getting in anywhere if I do this?

Since the UCAS deadline is coming up very soon, I’d really appreciate quick responses or advice, especially from people who’ve been in a similar position.

Thanks in advance!

Hi (2nd year finance and banking student here) I don’t know if it’s closed now but I’ll still give you my point of view on this. It is generally a good idea to have a safety option for 3 main reasons. One being not getting the grades, two it’s ease of mind and three, that uni might actually be better for u in sense of environment. What u have to understand is that, uni teaching is completely different to how A level is taught! If u for instance went to a top Russel group, u might find lectures there are less engaging and don’t actually make u want to learn. These types of unis are “book smart” and for people who want to go into “academia” usually anyways. But if ur more a person that learns from engaging with the lecture, talking to the professor, and actually learning real life application, they are more usually found in middle universities in terms of rankings. I don’t know what u took for A levels, but a uni could make or break u, if u don’t understand what’s being taught. But I wish u good luck! Anymore questions feel free to ask

Which A levels did you take and where will/ have you applied? i don't think A+F is particularly competitive. You shouldn't be put off applying to places which state AAA as their entrance criteria.
