study help

Hi everyone,

I am in year 10 and in trouble i have predicted all 7’s but aiming for all 9’s. I try to study but I procrastinate a lot. I’m working on the procrastination but when i do study i dont really get a lot out of it. I am just searching for effective strategies to study. If it helps i take chem, bio, physics, english (language and literature), maths, history, creative Imedia (predicted M2) and Spanish. I am specifically looking for tips for english lit and Imedia.

Thank you all!

Hi, a tip for the procrastination - what usually helps me is setting a timer, e.g. 25mins, and telling myself I will only work for that amount of time, and then use my phone or do anything that is distracting me.

I don't do media, but for english literature, the best way would be to watch videos on youtube of analysis of texts, depending on your exam board try these youtubers: Mr. Salles, Mr. Bruff, Taughtly.co.uk, Claire's notes, First Rate Tutors, Ms. Duckworth's Classroom, etc. This video is great for analysing language in any literature text, no matter your exam board: https://youtu.be/HEAVabVwZ98?si=UWad85lbKMbgYBAq
Personally, I found it rather eye-opening.

You can also check out example essays on markedbyteachers.com, they are mostly essays by other students and marked by students, but there are some good ones marked by teachers too.

Also, check out your exam board's assessment objectives (AO), they are usually listed in specifications or mark schemes. They basically tell you what you should have in an essay to gain marks, since AO's are what essays are marked on.

And this is probably obvious to you, but do past papers. I know for an essay-based/longer-writing task subject it can seem daunting, but it's honestly the best way. Get your teachers to mark those and add the improvements they tell you every time you write - don't solely rely on in-class writing lessons for writing practice.

Also, whenever you want to procrastinate, just remind yourself that procrastination is a habit that can be broken.
I like to imagine myself walking out of the exam hall feeling regretful I didn't study enough - never fails to boost me haha.
