Northern Irish students moving to England/Scotland/Wales

Hi.
I'm a northern irish student.
(if we want to be technical I consider myself Irish but uhhh)
Anyways.
Whilst everyone and their mother usually goes to Queens or Ulster (if we want to get exotic even Manchester or Liverpool)
A few of us like to move further on!
I would just like to make a thread for those of us who are considering moving from these 6 counties and less expensive rent to different unis across the UK! This is for advice, general questions and resources and is in no way an official thread.

Heyyy, aside from the usual Queens and Ulster I've applied and been offered Primary Ed in Durham and Strathclyde, no idea what else to say here🤷*♀️

what's up!
I've also applied to durham, alongside newcastle, york, exeter and NTU for law
did not apply for Queens or Ulster because
a) ulster is a gamble and I do NOT want to end up in Coleraine
b) #1 belfast hater I don't like belfast at all
also ngl nothing else to say here, I figured there had to be more of us

Yk what real, I did apply for them but I am NOT keen on Coleraine or Belfast either, only positive to the Ulster English course was that it was better than Queens, and Queens is... Belfast
Still holding out hope for Stran tho😭 them Durham fees are scary

So fair like
Stranmillis is the teacher training college isn't it? Idk I didn't pay attention when my school talked about em
but also there are ways to lessen durham fees (which is why I'm applying to a self-catered college over say a like. catered bc it halves the fees)

Yes it is! It's first choice tbh but I'm having the typical post-offer crisis
Self-catered >>>>

Yeah!
Durham is great, I was there for the summer school (which meant I also got FREE ****)
As far as it goes it's only a half hour flight to Newcastle from Belfast International so like you're sorted if you need to go home, and it's an hour from the airport + you take trains
it's also pretty much entirely walkable which I really like, one of the girls who picked us up from the airport was from Larne? I think?? But it's grand tbh, very hilly tho

Ach so you're set if you've already seen it
That's really good to know, especially the walkable part😂 so a good pair of trainers is key

Aye avoid jeans if possible (learned that mistake the hard way, bc i only brought jeans with me when i went) especially if you're gonna be around the hill colleges-- which unfortunately include ALL of the self catered colleges (john snow, south, josephine butler, stephenson and st hild and st bede)
good news though! you will probably be allowed to bring a car with you bc you're on a placement degree, so that lessens your burdens
driving in Durham would be similar to driving in Derry--which means, of course
hills
lots of hills
stupid amounts of hills

Sure I'm from Armagh direction, it's all long walks and completely wrong clothes anyways
Flip you've reminded me to look into getting the car over for placement 😂🤦*♀️

aye armagh is also a very similar driving experience-- especially if you're south armagh like idk how my fam down there does it it's WILD
aw no
for the car I guess you could get the ferry to Glasgow and drive down? There's also Liverpool too, it'd be about a 3 hour drive from either place either way like (on a motorway 😵*💫)
South Armagh gang yeoo
Just LOVELY 3 hour drive, no big deal🥲🥲
convenient 3 hour drive!! so fun!
(no but seriously are youse okay down there.
I'm sitting in my uncle's van fearing for my LIFE because of those backroads how tf do you do it)

Sure it'll be fiiiiiiiiiine if we can drive these backroads we can drive anywhere (It's not tooooo bad, but maybe just because I learned in a field that's almost vertical, hill starts are number one priority for the driving lessons anyways😂)

You'll get there, I still roll back a bit after driving for like 7 months, in handbrakes we trust 🤞🤞

But sure like you said about getting over, trains and walking can take you anywhere and if need be a wee taxi here and there wouldn't be too bad

Handbrakes >>>

Aye fair, walking from where I'm planning to stay at the uni to where my lectures would be is only 15 minutes! So not too bad I gues
