alevels in 4 months ?

hi guys.. idk how to feel tbh this is kinda keeping me up at night in fear and im acc rlly scared for litch everything rn i don’t feel good thinking about it at all. i just need someone to like. confirm? consolidate? idk make me feel better! im taking a gap year bc idrk what to do with my life im only 17 a child tbh and i do bio chem maths. currently i wanna say im on a bbc (from y12 mocks) c in chemistry.

idk my grades fluctuate a lot for maths i’ve gotten As and Ds it really depends on how much i try tbh. biology i’ve been on constant Bs but i feel like i’ve been improving lately but chemistry is downright horrible (constant Cs and like 1 mark into the C it’s so bad) i feel like i revise but im stuck in a horrible rut and i hate it.

but to get to my actual question, do you think i can achieve an AAA by the end of it all? maybe even an A*? im leaning towards either optom or dent, but idk im kind of appealed by econ/accounting at bristol, either way im going to need good grades to go to a nice uni. so do u realistically think if i properly pull my socks up my grades will come through in the end? and is there any tips u have for an ambitious y13 who is feeling proper scared by the prospect of failing rn!

You absolutely can achieve those grades, you've certainly got enough time to prepare for it. When exactly the perfect time to start proper revision is down to each person and their abilities, how much they already know, how much they need to catch up if they're behind etc, but I would definitely start making sure your notes for each subject are in order, and maybe collect resources for past papers you can practice later on. Don't go all in now though - you're likely to forget everything and need to relearn it later on. Start small, get into a routine you enjoy, then start adding more to it as you get closer to exam time.

I would suggest figuring out what's going wrong with your current revision methods to try get out of that rut - is your technique encouraging active recall? Are you maybe bored of doing it alone, would starting a study group with friends help? Also - if it's a specific concept or aspect of a subject you're struggling on getting down, definitely ask your teachers for help or feedback. They're there to impart the knowledge and expertise they've developed onto their students, so it would be a shame to waste that opportunity.

I hope that all made sense, not sure how legible it is, I've been writing all day so my brain is sorta fried haha, but yeah, TLDR absolutely you can make those grades! Wishing you good luck with finishing your A-Levels

Hello! @dormir07 🙂
Firstly, try not to stress too much about A Level exams, I can assure you everyone is in the same boat and you aren't alone! Although I know it's easier said than done!

`In terms of grades, you can achieve higher grades if you put in the work. I'd recommend making a study plan (don't make it too strict) and sticking to it. First, make sure you go over the content and you understand it well, then practice past papers! I did A Level Biology and Chemistry too and I'd say the more you practice exam questions, the better you will get. You will start to notice patterns in the mark schemes and be able to provide better answers. I'm sure it's the same for maths too!

Career wise, make sure you pick something you actually enjoy, but also pick a university that appeals to you, so make sure you attend open days! Dentistry/Optometry both require high levels of commitment so if you do pick these, make sure it's something you want to do.
This is a big decision, so do take your time to choose and don't feel pressured to make a choice quickly. You also aren't alone! I was still changing courses after receiving offers, so I understand how stressful it can be! You also have the option to apply via clearing (although not for dentistry or optometry).

Finally, make sure you are still doing things you enjoy even in exam season! It can be easy to just focus on revision day in day out, but you will eventually burn out!

I hope this helps, I'm more than happy to answer any questions! 🙂
Good luck with your A Levels and career choices! 🙂

Should start revising your arse off about now since those subjects are hard
A tutor could be useful: some tutors take their students up by 5 grades. I've took multiple students from E to A in AS Maths and Further Maths in several weeks.

There are many resources you can use online to learn these subjects. Machemguy, allerychemistry, chemsheets (for chemistry practice and mastery of every topic) and mrbicenmaths, examsolutions, profesor leonard (for differentiation/integration through his calculus 1/2 lectures). Textbook questions are amazing - do all of them. Then past papers in the end, but do past papers from other boards too if you want more questions.

tbf that was a very emotionally charged paragraph thank u for even reading it 🙏 i think i just don’t know things as thoroughly as i need to? which is something i plan on improving obviously. hm for revision i find myself forgetting things a lot so i guess ill have to focus more on techniques like active recall etc. and maybe specific things like organic chem (ew) and trig in maths that i need to focus on. yes mentally i have things in order now so thank u for ur encouragement

thank you for ur reply!
i plan to take a gap year not for any particular reason to be honest i just wanna chill for a bit maybe redo the ucat over the summer and get my application in by sept ish. bio and chem will be the death of me but i have been avoiding certain aspects a lot so obviously i wont do well in the things i ignore - so hopefully ill get all content done for march ish and i can just have 2 months of prep before june whilst avoiding burn out hopefully but yeah i can just hope it goes like i’ve planned and it’s all okay

I'm pretty much there as well, except its maths, physics and DT. I keep doing absolute DOGDOODOO in literally every test and everyone sees me as a failure I stg. As some advice for some idea on how to do better, demolishing some past papers is the best way forward for a levels at this point. There really is not much else one can do towards learning the course better. At the end of the day, the exam boards are not testing us on if we know the topics off by heart (although that does help) - they are testing us on if we can answer the questions and doing more practise on that is the best way forward. I've been doing a bunch cause i am about to do mocks - AGHHHHH.
Not really related but I also would like some advice :0

No worries! 🙂
That sounds like a plan!
There are plenty of resources for A Level content online, so do make use of them!
Redoing the UCAT is also a good idea! You could also do some work experience to help enhance your application, if you wanted too.
Hope all goes well! 🙂

Yes of course you have time to improve your grades. If you really commit yourself and work hard you definitely can achieve your goals. I’m on my gap year right now and last year my predicted grades were BCC. This threw me so much as I wanted to study Law and couldn’t even apply to the unis that I wanted to. I put in so much work from mocks in January until the end of exams and ended up with AAA, meaning I could apply for Law at the unis I was happy with.

I was so worried when I got my predicted grades, but I promise you it is doable, you just really need to work hard and the results will come. My best tip is to focus on exam technique; learn how all the questions are structured, look at past papers and old mark schemes to gauge what the examiners are looking for in an answer, and make sure to do PPQs under time pressure when revising. Best of luck and hope you end up with grades you're happy with!

hm i mean idk if im the best person but i have got a few As in maths from last year - i guess i go through videos of what i don’t understand and then just spam exam questions thats the ONLY way maths works unfortunately. physics sounds really hard but im thinking it’s a similiar concept to chem? videos notes questions - constant active recall and practice i guess that’s pretty muc y applicable to everything

YES YOU CAN!!!! i do the same subjects as you and just do as much practice as you can. do all the topic questions on pmt and any random websites you can find. start doing timed practice for past papers, use the old spec and different exam boards too. it's really just about consolidating your knowledge with maths especially. chem and bio i watch videos then do questions because those require a bit more memorisation than maths. hope this helps and YOU WON'T FAIL you can do it! good luck!!!!

that sounds good actually. Ive been doing some of that recently, especially in maths. At this point i have dropped the idea of making huge amounts of notes cause I dont think I will ever look back at them, so griding questions sounds like the best option. Thanks so much btw
