What is a crash higher

Hi I am applying to medicine or dentistry this year. For entry requirements I need either 3 advanced highers or 2 advanced highers with one crash higher.

Can someone explain what a crash higher is?

Would it count as a crash higher in s6 if I did the subject at Nat 5? Or does it have to be something completely different?

Thank you

Hi, as said previously, a crash Higher is a subject that you have not done at National 5 level, but are doing it at Higher, for example: if you didn't do History at N5, but did it as a Higher in S6, this would be considered a crash Higher. Crash Highers are notoriously harder to complete than normal Highers, due to the lack of baseline knowledge that doing the subject at National 5 provides. This may be why your uni entry requirements include a crash Higher, to assess how well you cope at learning completely new concepts in a short time.
