Stay at home for uni or move away?

Ive got offers from queens university belfast and uni of glasgow for law -both rank in top ten for law in the uk, and i cant decide whether to stay in northern ireland (where im from) or go to scotland. My parents have a house in belfast that they rent out to uni students so if i go to belfast i will be able to have free accommodation and my fees will be £4000 whereas in glasgow id be paying a weekly rent and £9000 a year for my degree. Most people have just told me to stay and go to queens but ive always wanted to go abroad for uni however i dont want a massive debt!! What would you do in my position?

Hi Aidanmall07👋

Congratulations on your two offers🎉

Where you go to university can be a big decision. If you're happy to study either course, it's worthwhile considering what you want to get from your student experience.

You'll have less of a financial burden in Belfast. So, you'll have more money for food, essentials, socialising, and days out. In Glasgow, you'll likely have to focus more on budgeting and planning for days out. However, you'll explore a new city and its surroundings and immerse yourself in the local culture.

Wherever you decide to study, I would suggest you visit the universities' web pages to see whether there are any scholarships you can apply for.

I wish you the very best no matter which university you choose.

-Leanne🙂

In your position I'd probably go to Queen's. Much of the benefit of going to a uni away from your home town is getting away (in a good way) from your parents. As long as your parents' student house isn't just down the road, that objective should be fulfilled. You can always go abroad for postgraduate if you want.

Well done on your offers. I am sure you could have great experience whatever you choose
If you intend to settle / live in Scotland then go to Glasgow. Just be careful as law is different between Scotland and Ireland/ Eng&Wales assuming you want to enter law practice.
QUB a lot cheaper. Glasgow you have living away in new city etc . Pros and Cons.
