Hi- hope you're well! Studying Criminology and Psychology at Liverpool John Moores University offers a great balance between understanding the causes and impacts of crime and exploring the science behind human behaviour. The course is designed to give you a strong foundation in both subjects from day one, with the opportunity to explore more specialised areas as you progress. You’ll begin by learning the core principles of psychology — things like cognitive and social psychology, biological influences on behaviour, and research methods. At the same time, you’ll explore key criminological themes such as theories of crime, the criminal justice system, and social policy. As you move into second and third year, there’s plenty of flexibility to tailor your studies to your interests. One of the strengths of the course is that the psychology component is BPS-accredited, which means it meets the standards required by the British Psychological Society. That’s a great benefit if you’re thinking about a career in psychology or further postgraduate study later on! The teaching approach has a mix of lectures, workshops, and seminars. Assessment is balanced too — it’s not all about exams. You’ll be assessed through essays, group presentations, research projects, and reports, with plenty of support along the way. You’ll have access to personal tutors, academic support services, and really approachable lecturers. Plus, there are excellent facilities for both subjects — including psychology labs, specialist software, and spaces for practical criminology work like simulated crime scenes. It’s a well-rounded course that prepares you for a wide range of careers — from probation, policing, and youth work to roles in mental health, research, or further academic study.
