How to Explain Extenuating Circumstances?

Hi all. I have a question on the postgrad admissions process that I hope someone can help me with.

How would someone go about explain extenuating circumstances normally in the application? For example regarding undergrad performance that was less than ideal for a number of reasons.

The 500 word limit to the personal statement would barely leave enough room for that plus talking about your specific qualities and qualifications or interests etc.

Would appreciate some help! Thank you so much and good luck to everyone!

I would email the relevant academic department shortly after submitting the application.

If you have not applied yet, I’d probably engage with them first and find out whether it would make any difference. Some postgrad courses can be strict with academic requirements.
