If the entry requirements are AAA and I get A*A*B, could I still keep my place?

I’d submitted my UCAS application in October and have already applied for 4 (architecture) courses which all have required grades AAA or greater. I have one place left and am torn between adding another university which I can definitely see myself attending which happens to have AAA required grades, or playing it safe with a safety-net university with required grades AAB or less (which I can’t see myself spending >£9250 a year on). I’m predicted A*A*A, the first two are fine, but I’m barely scraping an A. Should I risk it or play safe?

Yk it kinda depends on the uni and how other people do on results day. Last year at my sixth form a lot of people did not meet their offer requirements but they still went to their original firm, however there were people that didn’t meet their offer and had to go to their insurance, go through clearing or repeat year 13. My friend applied for a course with an offer of AAA but achieved A*A*D she still got in to her RG uni so it really depends. A lot of unis have clarified that A*A*B A*AB AAA so it’s really at their discretion as to whether they let you in if you miss your offer which would depend on how close to the offer you were and whether others also missed their offer.

Architecture at A grade Unis will always be competitive - and just meeting or exceeding the required grades may not be enough. For this reason, I'd suggest that you have an AAB choice - or a Plan B to reapply next year.
