Any ideas for biochemistry supercurriculars?

Hello
I'm a Year 12 student and have recently switched from wanting to do medicine to biochemistry. I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for supercurriculars. This includes any books or podcasts you know of, just anything really that could be helpful.
I appreciate any and all advice <3

Hi, I would recommend the following books:
. A Very Short Introduction to Biochemistry/Chemistry (from the very short introduction book series)
. The Manga Guide to Biochemistry (sounds silly but it’s good)
. The Body book by Bill Bryson as it has some biochem in it too
. The Selfish Gene book should have some biochem/genetics

I would also recommend any of Andrew Syzdlo’s chemistry lectures on the Royal Institution (they are not necessarily biochem, but are still good)

Hello! @cellsRus 🙂
Firstly, it's great you're thinking of super curriculars so early on!
I know you have been given book and lecture recommendations but another thing you can do, to narrow down, is pick your favourite topic in chemistry/biology and research it.
For example, when I applied (I do Natural Sciences but I take a lot of biochemistry modules) I talked about the CRISPR technique. I had researched this by looking at YouTube videos, listening to podcasts, reading books about CRISPR and even news articles. It can be quite impressive if you talk about things that are currently happening in Biochemistry, but it's not a requirement!

I hope this helps! 🙂
Fatma.

Hi @cellsRus

When I was applying for biochemistry, I looked at some free MOOCs on FutureLearn in areas I was interested in!

Good luck with applications,
