Maths, Economics & Law? Doing maths will set you up for Econometrics should you do an Economics Degree, and the other two are pretty much self explanatory.

For Economics - Maths and FM (you don't actually need an A level in Economics).

For Law - no 'required subjects' but most people an essay based subject like Politics, Sociology, History is useful (you don't need an Alevel in Law and it wont help you get an offer)

Maths is a definite, and if aiming for top universities (LSE, UCL, Oxford, etc.) I would take further maths if you can.
For economics/law you want at least 1 essay based subject - think politics, history - but economics would also be good.

I would say definitely do Maths, potentially Economics, and another essay writing subject. You can also do Further Maths if you want but I would recommend this as a fourth choice.

Maths tends to a required subject to go and do an Economics degree, especially at Russell Group Unis, considering your strong grades in maths at GCSE, I think it will be a good choice.

I would recommend Economics, even though it is not necessary in order to get into an Economics degree, it will give you an idea about whether you like the subject or not, especially as it is not a subject most people have never studied before college. Plus Economics is an essay writing subject so it should aid your application if you choose to go for a law degree.

I think it is a good idea for you to do another essay writing subject, like Psychology, History, Geography, English or Politics. The skills you acquire from these subjects will be more relevant to Law or Economics than a subject like chemistry or physics would.

Further Maths could be a good choice if your college offers it. But I have never seen a case where it is necessary for an Economics degree. You may want to take it but if it is putting a burden on your grades in your other subjects, I would consider dropping it. A*AA will be more attractive to unis than AABB.

Also, keep in mind that most colleges allow you to switch subject within your first few weeks, so you can change subjects if you initally pick one and start to think it may not be for you.

Good luck.

Debating which essay subject I choose between English lit history and politics. I’m set on math and econ, just need two more

With English Lit and History, I would definitely check at the college or sixth form you want to attend, which books and topics they study, this should help you narrow down between those two.

I'm not sure if A Level Politics has a range of topics available to choose from but if they do, ask which ones the college you want to attend does.

Also, you might want to put into consideration that Politics has no coursework involved while English Lit and History does.

I don't do any of those subjects, I couldn't tell you from personal experience how they're like unfortunately.

Definitely take Maths as this would be beneficial in any career, plus it’s essential for an economics degree. A level economics would be rly good too for both econ and law at uni. And then a 3rd subject that would be great is something perhaps essay based like politics. For your third subject, I would pick something that you’re most interested in and passionate about.
Also well done you did amazing in your mocks!

Personally, I wouldn’t suggest english lit. I take it and it’s quite bad and nothing like gcse, depending on the exam board the mark schemes differ but for me, 50% of english lit essays have to be history and i do ocr english lit just for context.
I would suggest something you’re passionate about! unless you really do love english lit then yes but otherwise i would opt for something like

politics

philosophy

geography (this could be good as you did it at gcse and it’s facilitating so top unis like this)

maybe even a science if you’re passionate about them, as you’ve got rly good grades in them

I'd choose Maths, Further Maths, Economics and History. I wouldn't study Law for A-Level, you don't need it to study Law at degree level and it is not a facilitating subject.

Economics is not facilitating either

Which subjects do you enjoy the most and think you will do best in?
For law, theres no specific subject requirements (just certain grades). Double check unis websites for economics, but economics and/or maths might be useful.
