Geography options

My son has had offers from Plymouth, winchester and Bournemouth. (Still waiting for Cardiff reply. ) We've visited Bournemouth. Have offer holder.day for Plymouth soon. Course sounded ok but thought it was concerning they had half the number of people for 2024 on course than in 2023. Will the course even run?
Anyone thoughts from anyone whose on these courses in any of these places would be appreciated. Or any thoughts about the universities in general. I am guessing winchester would he the most expensive for private accommodation.

Hi Dennisthemennis

Congratulations to your son for his uni offers!

I'm a current Geography student at Bournemouth University. Personally, I believe that both the course and your time at university are what you make of them. There are plenty of opportunities available at BU to enhance your experience if you seek them out.

I previously completed work experience where I spent a month in Africa on a game reserve. I also took part in another placement where I assisted on a research project and I’ve volunteered with a few organisations which has helped me to develop valuable skills whilst giving me something enjoyable to do in my free time.

One of my favourite things about Bournemouth University is its location, as there are so many natural landmarks to explore nearby which is very fitting to the course. I also appreciate that the Geography course allows you to choose some of your units, enabling you to tailor your studies to your interests and focus on what you are truly passionate about.

There are Open Days on 8 March and 26 April, specifically for applicants. You mentioned that you have attended a BU Open Day before but you and your son may find it helpful to visit again, ask any further questions, speak with current students to gain different perspectives on life at Bournemouth University and explore the accommodation options. Your son should receive an email inviting him to the applicant events.

I hope this helps!

Thank you for your positive thoughts. There's a lot to consider but it sounds good. I thought the choice of units sounded good.when we visited. . Bournemouth iis his nearest choice and only an hour from where we live on a direct train route so has a lot of pluses . I know it well as I'm originally from Poole.

Hello @Dennisthemennis
Congratulations to your son for his geography offers! My best advice would to be visit each of the universities on their applicant/offer holder days that usually run from February-April, as there are a great way to explore campus, chat to lectures about the courses in great detail, attend taster lectures and see other things around the university like accommodation. My best advice when attending these days is to see if you could imagine yourself enjoying studying and living at each university. Also, you could look online at the modules you could expect to study at each university, as the geography course at each university might specialize in slightly different areas, so could be useful to see which of these you prefer.
Hope your offer holder at Plymouth goes well, and if you have anymore questions, feel free to ask!
