after my a levels

so i'm currently doing economics, english literature & language (one a-level) and maths for my a-levels but i'm sort of looking at diplomacy/law - i think i'd definitely want to do some sort of international law if i actually go into law but also i want to have a look at diplomacy as well. is there any specific degree that i should do, or would law work fine (with the add on of international law). i'm definitely interested in politics and i feel like i do enjoy listening and reading about it in the news so...any advice?

p.s., can someone tell me what diplomacy actually entails because i'm still slightly unlear - is it just the UN and politics or something more?
(sorry if i come off as stupid here i really don't know what it is it just sounded interesting lol)

Hello @xo_inika_xo

I hope you are well. If you are interested in international law or diplomacy, there are many pathways you can consider. Degrees like Politics and International Relations, Law, or Economics and Politics are popular choices, and many universities offer them opportunities to specialise further. It is a good idea to research different programmes, attend open days, and consider what subjects you enjoy most.

Birmingham City University offers courses like the LLB (Hons) Law, which provides a strong foundation for a legal career, and postgraduate options such as the LLM in International Law or the MA in International Relations and Security, both designed to prepare you for global careers with practical experience included. These are just a few pathways to consider for the future. If you want to know more about what BCU offers, feel free to ask or visit https://bit.ly/4aHFLz5 to come and ask in person.

Hope this helps.

Diplomacy involves the maintenance of relationships between States and/or international organisations such as the UN, the EU, EFTA, ICAO, the WHO, the World Bank and so on. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the British Council are the main arms of UK diplomacy. Degrees in law, international relations, PPE (and its component subjects), history, and languages could be useful.
