Question about my firm and insurance

So i’ve recieved an offer from sheffield to study computer science. I need AAA but my alternative offer (contextual) is ABB if i make it my firm choice. I’ve also applied to bristol (haven’t recieved an offer yet) but is my actual first choice (A*AA, contextual AAB). whether I get a contextual from bristol or not, it will be higher than my sheffield alternative offer. Can I make sheffield my firm to get the alternative offer and bristol my insurance incase I do get the grades for bristol? Then manually accept my insurance over my firm?

Nope. You cannot "manually accept my insurance over my firm".

If, on results day, your firm accepts you (either because you meet the offer conditions, or because you just miss them and they opt to accept you anyway) then your insurance offer "vanishes". The only way to then get into what was your insurance choice would be via Clearing.
“Lower grades if firm” offers are there to manipulate you. Universities know that they’ll take those grades anyway in August for firm and insurance applicants so they try to leverage that to make you pick them.

Your firm choice should be your favourite. Regardless of the grades required.

Your insurance should be somewhere you would be happy to go to. Ideally with a lower requirement but that isn’t always necessary.
