Media and Communications at University of Exeter

Im currently in a position where I hold offers from Cardiff, Loughborough, Exeter and Birmingham for Media and Communications 2025 entry.

I really like the Exeter campus, culture and the University as a whole.

My only concern is that the course is a little too focused on Communication when I am more interested with Media, and the course actually won’t include much Digital Media content, so looking for some advice on the course itself.

Any help would be massively appreciated.

Hi oli-w-lawrence,

Great to hear that you're interested in studying at the University of Exeter!

You can find a lot of information about the course on our website, especially on the Course Content tab. This will show the modules available to study in each year and provide good insight into what the course covers and the options within. Modules that might specifically interest you include EAS1016 Digital Cultures: Narrative, Creativity, Industry, CMM3004 Social Media and Society, CMM3006 Digital Inequalities and HUM3003A Hacking the Humanities: How to Plan and Run Successful Digital Projects.

You could also consider the Year Abroad or Professional Placement variants of the course as a way to gain more specific experience and knowledge during your degree - either working in industry or studying at a partner university abroad who perhaps specialise more in Digital Media. I did a Year Abroad during my own undergraduate degree and Exeter really encouraged me to take complementary modules to add to what I'd be taught at home.

I hope that helps to answer your question a little, but let me know if you have any further questions.

I'm thinking of applying to all of these in September for Media, but predicted BBB and I know they all asking ABB on the website. Did any of these Unis make a lower offer to you than ABB? I really like the look of the Exeter course as it feels more future focussed in terms of skills needed for employment than the others imo

Hi Lorrim!

It's great to hear that you're considering studying at Exeter! I would recommend checking to see if you may be eligible for a contextual offer that can bring that required grade of ABB down to a BBC. The eligibility checker is available here: https://exetereligibilitychecker.uk/

Hope this helps!

Hi, am interested to know if you decided to go with the Exeter course and any update if you did please? I'm applying for SS26 entry.
