i did edexcel a few years back
i seem to remember a good thing which improved my marks was planning essays. my school gave me a long list of potential essays that could come up in the exam and i made plans of how i would answer them. so when the exam came i was more prepared
i think flashcards are really important as you need to have facts and correct knowledge to get higher marks
someone better qualified hopefully can answer (i got an 8)

i do igcse edexcel. what's the structure of your exam? is it 'impressions of the source' / 'two effects of..' / and 'to what extent was... an important factor in ...' ?

if so, i would recommend making a table on a google doc with the event, a short description of it, two effects, and its importance. if it wouldn't come up in an essay question, there's no need to write about its importance, but it's worth thinking about how it could be applied in the exam.

also remember to include statistics and key dates. it's worth blurting what you can remember ab the events as you make the table, but otherwise use your notes!! then print the table, highlight, and annotate for maximum memory retention 🙂 this is what i've done for every paper i (development of dictatorship in germany and the cold war) and it has gone well for me. i do the same for paper ii (development of warfare) but adapt it to match the different structure, i.e. 'two changes...' / 'causes of success in...' / 'to what extent was... a development'
