A-level choices

Hi
I’m looking for students undertaking psychology, biology or history…..
looking for honest opinions about these subjects. Do you enjoy them?
I’m a parent. My son has applied to do maths, economics and psychology. His 3 rd choice could have been biology or history too.
Would love to hear how you’re getting on.
Thanks, Cath

Hi there Cath,

It very much depends on what he enjoys, what he excels at and if he knows what kind of uni course he may want to do. I personally did A Level psychology and absolutely loved it - it struck a good balance between the technical, statistical, scientific and the literary, analytical and essay-based.

The content I found manageable as long as I kept up to date, as most students take this up from scratch at A Level, and is unlike economics and maths in the sense that it looks into human behaviour and the workings of the human mind. I learnt an awful lot about the world and about people from doing psychology which I really valued. If he wanted to do something business-related or economics-related at uni then this would be a good third option.

If he finds he enjoys the course and is able to keep up with the material then I think motivation will follow and he could end up doing very well. Unfortunately cannot speak for Biology or History as I did not take them, however one is ver much science-based and the other is very much essay-based and I liked psychology a lot because it offered elements of both.

Hoping this helped - best of luck to him!

Hi, im in my second year and i do maths and psychology, i really enjoy maths vut its important to practice questions constantly early on or rlse youll get left behind. But psychology i find relatively easy as long as you keep revisiting the knowledge so it stays in your memory. I have friends who do biology and it is typically one of the harder exams but the content isnt that hard its the exam questions, so again just exam question practice early on. But he sounds like he has good chiuce if subjects and aslong as he works hard i think he will enioy it!
