Hi all!

I hope you're doing well.

Congratulations on submitting your UCAS applications, and wishing you the best of luck for hearing back over the course of the next few months!

When I applied to University, I was unsure about how the process of applying for accommodation worked, so I will be sharing some tips with you about how it works and how to make an informed decision about where to stay.

It is strongly recommended that new students to the University opt to stay in University Halls. The proximity to the centre of campus gives you the perfect base to explore and get to know the University from, and bills being all inclusive gives you one less thing to worry about during your transition. I personally stayed in Stanton Hall, a premium en-suite, and loved the location on the beautiful Reading campus, and found it was so useful living with other first years so we could all get used to the new environment together.

When applying for accommodation, I would recommend looking through the available options. There are a range of options to choose between, including shared or en-suite bathroom, catered or self-catered, on or off campus, single or mixed gender, and standard or quiet living. I would suggest having a think about what kind of living environment you would like for your first year, and then look at the options available.

Some people choose to be self-catered so they can eat whenever they want to and choose their own meals, and some people choose catered so they don't need to worry about cooking meals or buying food too often. There are a number of meal plans available so it's worth browsing these here.

You can look through some photos and details of the different accommodation options here, and here is a rough guide for the different halls' distance from the centre of campus.

You can view some virtual accommodation tours on the University of Reading website here, but even better than that, you can actually tour some of the accommodation in person. Accommodation tours are on offer at Offer Holder Days which take place at the University of Reading. There are some of these days in February, March and April so I would recommend signing up in order to allow you to look round the accommodation.

Applications for accommodation open on 5th February 2025, and close on 1st August. Accommodation offers will come through in mid August, and you will have two days to accept the offer once it is given. Keep an eye on your emails as information about where to apply for your accommodation will come through on here.

There is a frequently asked questions page here which has some really useful information, and you are always welcome to ask us any questions if you have them!

I hope this has been helpful!

Hi everyone!

Congratulations to everyone who has submitted their UCAS applications, that is great news! 🙂

Now that your applications are in, here are some top tips that will hopefully help with what to prioritise next:

1)Focus on your studies! Often offers are conditional so working towards fulfilling your grades is key. Trying to stick to a clear revision timetable can be really effective to ensure you cover all topics that may appear in the exam. Spend time researching effective revision techniques too, as you may find a new method which works better for you! One of my favourites is using a whiteboard for the 'blurting' method or the Pomodoro Technique which breaks work in 25 minute intervals with short breaks in between!

2)Looking into accommodation is key too! At Reading there are lots of options for accom which can be browsed here. This will give you a good idea of what is available. Also, you may want to take a virtual tour here.

3)I would recommend also checking out the deadlines for applying to student finance if this is the route you are taking. Make sure to get in the deadlines to avoid any delays in September!

4)Keep an eye on you UCAS Hub and emails as universities may invite you to applicant days, interviews or send further important info about your course. Staying up to date will avoid you missing anything!

I hope these tips help! Best of luck with receiving offers and do let us know if you have any more questions about student life here at Reading!

All the best,
Millie 🙂
