With the new(ish) profile functionality, marking yourself as "Mainly a... Other" In the pop-up that appears upon launching Student Room (I am primarily a desktop user) will mean that the pop-up is prompted to repeatedly reappear as it doesn't seem to view your profile as being "complete", as I often see the banner to "Complete my profile" when I dismiss the pop-up. It saves my previous input, so it clearly is collecting that information to some degree, but it confuses me that it doesn't seem to accept "other" as a valid answer.
It doesn't happen every time I open the tab, but on a semi-regular basis - maybe once or twice a week.
I am a recent graduate who works in a competitive industry and like to help people looking to make informed choices about their university experience, but that means I don't fall into the categories of being a "student", "parent", or "working in education".
In general SR has a large percentage of it's questions answered by a comparatively small number of very dedicated volunteers, who are mostly people that work in education. I think this is great - and wonderful students have access to this information - but as a whole the site could benefit from a wider range of opinions, especially opinions from outside academia (which is known for being insular), and discouraging graduates that are not working in education (even through small things like this, that infer "this forum is not intended for you") from being post-answerers is part of that problem. I hope that's not a controversial take!
If you had an additional option for "Graduate" and it didn't retrigger the window, that'd be great for me - but frankly if "Other" was an accepted criteria for "Profile Complete" that'd be great too - I am sure there other groups of people affected by that.
