University Offers

I am a little bit impatient and I'm wondering how long it usually takes to hear back from universities. I'm a mature studnet (21) and have had a rocky road with education hence why I'm jumping back in now. But now I have a solid idea of what I want to do and I'm genuinely trying to chace after my dream career (genetic counselling or genetic research)

I have applied for (in order of desirability):
- University of Liverpool
- Liverpool John Moores University
- Edge Hill University
- Aston University
- Birmingham City University

As a mature student I'm a bit anxious because most uni's are reluctant to offer access students places so I've heard and University of liverpool Biomedical Science (the course I've applied to) is supposed to be very competitive... I live in Birmingham and I really want to go to university elsewhere (preferably liverpool) but with the idea of less that 5% of places being offered to mature students who did access courses worries me a little.
I've already received a conditional reduced offer from Edge Hill which I was excited about until I realised that their course is not accreddited which is also mandatory for me so now I'm having to reconsider if I should have it as one of my main offers.

My main question is does anyone know how soon I may hear back from these unis (If anyone has applied to their science departments before)?

Hi @venuskulture,

It really depends on the course and the university. Personally I had all my offers back by the middle of February, however I have friends who didn't hear back until April.

The deadline for universities to respond (if you applied by the 31st January) is the 16th May. More competitive course will have a longer response time due to the volume of applications.

Basically, there is no way to speed up the process and I completely understand it can be a long wait. However I recommend doing things to keep your mind off it, such as hobbies outside of education.

I wish you luck with your offers, please feel free to ask me any questions 😊,

Hi @venuskulture,

BCU tries to process all applications as efficiently as possible. If you applied through UCAS, they will respond within the deadlines set by UCAS. If they require additional information or need you to attend an interview, audition, or portfolio review, they will email you using the address provided in your application with further details. You can also check your mySRS portal for any outstanding actions.

Due to the high volume of applications it may take some time, but be assured you will receive a response before the deadline.

Hope this helps,

Hi there😊

I too started uni a little later than most and I can relate to some of your current worries. I would really advise not worry yourself too much on your age being an issue, many students start uni later on and it's really not that big a deal!

In terms of receiving your offer, again try not to worry! As long as you have submitted your application the university will have received this and will review it in due course.

Universities have until 13th May 2026 to provide an offer (for January applicants) or until 15th July 2026 (for applications submitted by 30th June).

I hope this provides you with some reassurance😊
