GCSE English Lit/Lang Revision tips that are actually useful?

does anyone have any ACTUALLY good revision tips or materials for aqa GCSE english lit and lang because when I look online or ask around I get something vague like "You just have to know the book". Is that genuinely the best advice or is there anything more specific I should be doing?

My current grade is an 8 and I want to bump it up to a 9 but after mocks this week I feel like I really flunked so now I need all I can get to get back up there

hey, as someone who got high 9s in both papers and tutors GCSE students in english, I slightly disagree with this advice! Yes, you need to know your books and poems inside out, especially contextually, but remembering masses of long quotes word for word is impossible, and almost a waste of time. Divide your quotes into different sections, by theme, and by character - keep only or mostly the quotes that have 2 or 3 points of analysis - eg. hyperbole, metaphor, and full rhyme, and keep all quotes to only a few words long. In fact, when you concisely ‘slip in’ a quote into your essay, your writing is much more fluent, and hence will score highly. For example, instead of ‘the poet shows his relationship with his son is strained with the simile “like a satellite Wrenched from its orbit, go drifting away”…’ use: ‘the poet implies his bond with his son is being forcefully strained via a simile that describes his son as a satellite that is “wrenched from its orbit”, and “drifting away”…’ (Not only does this flow better, it also means you don't have to remember the long quotes word for word, only the few key words). I hope that helps! And, if you’re interested in a few tuition sessions in Lit (for LOTF, Xmas Carol, Much Ado, Love and Relationships) or Lang, let me know!

Thank you,
This is the kind of advice I was looking for, much appreciated 👍️

Does anyone have any tips for language? Particularly q2 in paper 2, I can't get more than 4/5 out of 8.

I'm assuming you already learn your quotes with their analysis so my advice to you would be improving your language levels, you can do this by reading books from actual literary critics. Hope this helps!
