Reason for rejection at LSBU DHT??

I was disappointed to find out today that I’ve been rejected from both the Dental Hygiene and Therapy courses at LSBU, despite meeting and exceeding the minimum entry requirements. I achieved ABB at A-level and earned five 9s and five 8s at GCSE. My personal statement is strong, thoroughly highlighting my relevant skills and experience ( 2 weeks at a dental practice, 1 week at a pharmacy , 1 year at a tuition centre and more extracuricculars; which i all linked back to dht) so I’m struggling to understand the reason for the rejection. Could anyone provide advice on why this might have happened, or how I could get in touch with the Dental Hygiene and Therapy admissions tutors for further clarification? Any help would be much appreciated!

You can contact the university and ask for a reason behind the rejection. Typically, unis have a phone number, enquiry form or email available. So that may give you more clarity.

Sometimes they require science based A-Levels? I also know that they sometimes want more experience in the dental field (difficult if you’re leaving school). I’m from a dental background with all the qualifications they needed and I got a rejection from LSBU last year. It’s very competitive and not many spaces. Keep trying!

It could possibly be because you applied to both courses. I would recommend contacting them to find out. Last year, there was a mistake on my application, but after it was corrected and I was offered an interview. I’d definitely double check, good luck!

Thank you for the advice, I took bio chem math a levels so I have the science based a levels and the course is an undergraudate course available to school leavers so im not sure how they want any solid experience in the dental field apart from the classic 1-3 weeks of work experience that students usually do, I did my a levels last year and I’m just currently on a gap year right now. Also if you don't mind me asking; what was the reason for rejection from lsbu, and did you get any interviews or offers?

Maybe it’s the personal statement then if you match all other criteria. I think (can’t exactly remember) I got rejected because I didn’t quite have enough A-Levels last time. So I topped it up this time after completing an access course

a lot of people have been rejected this year for their personal statements, ask them specifically what it was about your that they didnt like. Its a highly competative course with only 10-16 spaces for around 600 applicants per uni so i guess they can be really picky about personal statements. its crap but definitely ask, wishing the best xx

I was also rejected for my personal statement and I know others that were too. I think it is because of the high number of applicants, in their open day they mentioned how on each course, (dental hygiene and the dental therapy) they were only accepting around 12- 16 people on each course.

The degree is over saturated, way too many applicants and not enough spaces. I got rejected for my PS too. I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with it, they just have the luxury to be picky unfortunately.
