Hi guys - quick question (thanks)

I'm aiming for a 2:1, I have some additional needs and have had a lot of support from uni and staff - but I keep falling down on referencing, and sentence structure.

I am gonna try really hard on my dissertation, and final assignments, but I am panicking about my final grade already (I finish in May).

I have a 67, 62, 58, 62 so far with two assigments to go (one being the dissertation). I really want a 2:1. You can tell me degree isn't in maths (haha) - am I currently averaging 63? In grade terms, I mean? I know the marking is broken down in different ways.

Thanks for any help

No-one can give you a definitive answer without information such as the credits in each module, the weighting of each year in your degree, and the methods your uni uses to calculate final grades.

Hi

Congratulations on the grades you have received so far, they are great!

I would advise you to speak to your learning support team who will be able to help you with all things referencing and academic writing.

I hope this helps,

Hi there,

I agree that the best person to talk to about this would be someone at your uni - if you have a personal tutor or academic advisor you could ask them, or just ask one of your tutors if they have time to help explain this to you. It will depend on whether each module is worth the same amount of credits/whether each assignment is worth the same amount of credits too.

in terms of struggling with referencing, it might be a good idea to have a look and see if your university puts on any sessions to help students with their referencing. At Hallam, the library puts on different sessions to help students out with different things such as referencing so see if yours does this too.

The same thing goes for sentence structure so see if there is any help you can get with this too.

I would also suggest talking to your tutors and explaining how and why you are struggling and see if there is any help that they can offer you with this. They may be able to explain things more concisely to you or in a better way that you understand.

I hope some of this helps,

Hi
The university library should have a writing guide where you can be taken through referencing and citation practices. Also, I'd advise you to thoroughly check out Purdue website, they have good examples on sentence structure and writing in general.
Let me know if this helps.

Hiya there,

As has been said there are a lot of different factors which need to be taken into account when working out where your average grade is now and what you need to get in order to get that 2:1. However from what you have said, none of the grades you have so far have been bad and it sounds like you are somewhere on the 2:2 - 2:1 boundary at the moment. So if you get a bit of help with the referencing, your academic writing style and anything else your feedback is pointing to sorted and you get as much support as you can with your dissertation then I would say that you are more than capable of achieving your 2:1 🙂

I hope this helps, best of luck with everything!
