A level options (Aspiring doctor 😭🫶)

Heyyyy,

Basically I do triple science at gcse w AQA and I chose my options for A level to be Bio Chem Phys but I’m predicted 7 in bio 7 in chem and 8 in physics atm. I’m in year 11 and I’m becoming unsure if it’ll be too much workload because I don’t have an older sibling or someone I can ask about A levels.

Physics is my favourite and I understand it pretty well, I didn’t revise for the mocks and I got a 7B so if I revise I’m sure I can do better but now I’m questioning how it’ll be at A level. I prefer physics because I got a 6 in maths but I’m predicted a 7 despite me doing ALOT of revision for it. For me I either get something or I don’t and if I don’t then I give up and atp idk what I’m going to do now.

So please if anyone does A level physics is it really that hard if I don’t take maths (I’m quite good at the graphs and my trigonometry and rearranging formulas as it is so idk). I still will pick it but I just need advice on what I could do for physics so I can make sure I balance it with the other sciences too.

Also if anyone chose the same variation how’s it going 😭🫶 xx

i have a friend who does this combo and she loves it!! she's also applied for med and has great stats and is doing just fine without maths

Not everyone that takes a-levels has an older sibling and they still do fine if they put in the work.
Medical schools don't take what a-levels you take apart from chemistry and one other science, so keep that in mind.
Best of luck.

As someone who does Bio and Chem A level + AS physics, I would strongly advise you take maths tbh (just my opinion!) because otherwise you will have to teach yourself topics like logs etc which aren't covered at GCSE but they assume you know since most people take maths alongside. Also there is loads of maths and stats involved in biology with a large overlap with A level maths. For example, hypothesis testing which we spent 3 lessons learning in maths and only half a lesson learning in biology, so it is quite hard to follow if you're not doing maths alongside it in my opinion.
This is obviously just my opinion and many people take these subjects without maths and do just fine! Personally though, I dropped physics because maths was much more helpful and complementary to Bio and Chem! You could also consider taking something like core maths alongside your 3 a levels just to keep up your maths skills if you don't want to do the whole a level, but tbh maths gets a lot more fun at a higher level (especially compared to GCSE!) especially with mechanics etc, so if you like physics, you'd probably really enjoy A level maths!
