Uni of York

Truthfully, what is the nightlife like? I’m more of a bars and pub crawls person but i do hope there’s some decent clubs? Thanks xx
Are you planning to visit for offer holder/applicant visit days? If so you could arrange to stay overnight and ask if the university or student union can help you meet with some current students to show you.

Hi there,

It's great to hear that you're considering studying at York! I graduated from York in 2022, but hopefully I'm still relevant enough to give you some helpful insights into night-life here! 💃🕺

The rumour goes that York has a different pub for every day of the year! I'm not 100% convinced there's quite that many, but we do have loads of bars and pubs to choose from. There's more student-y or indie bars like Stone Roses bar, Dusk and Drawing Board. If you're into cocktails, then there's no better place than Evil Eye, which has a full book of cocktails to choose from! If you want to feel like you've stepped back in time to the era of Vikings, then you've got to check out House of Trembling Madness and Valhalla. Or, if you want somewhere Instagrammable, then Manahatta or Bobo Lobo are the place for you.

We've also got several great clubs in York and have student nights too (but these can change year by year). You can sing-along to cheesy pop tunes in Flares, dance the night away in Ziggy's, or have a boogie in Salvo's, the classic location for any sports team social!

In short, York has a great selection of clubs, bars and pubs, so you can be sure you'll have a great night out here! But, if you do want to go to a bigger venue or have a “big city night out”, then we're only a short distance from Leeds, just 20 minutes on the train.

I hope this helps! If you've got any other questions, feel free to add them in this thread, and we'll do our best to answer them - Hannah 😄
