Hi there!

It totally depends on the course requirements, but the normal GCSE requirements are a 4 in Maths and English. Oxbridge will sometimes require slightly higher grades such as a 6/7 in Maths and English, and maybe in the subject area you are taking - like requiring a 7 in Biology if you're taking the Natural/Biological Sciences course.

In no scenario will they require all 9s for GCSE, so this really should NOT impact your ability to get an offer from them!

Hope this helps

Definitely not.

How GCSEs are weighted depends on the course. E.g. medicine applicants (on average) will usually have stronger GCSEs than music, for example because some subjects just require more evidence of exam performance. GCSEs are weighted by Oxford when they shortlist for physics interviews. Within Cambridge, different colleges weight GCSEs to different extents in their decision-making (for law - this is anecdotal from talking to admissions tutors on the open day, I doubt this is an official policy).

Edit - but you certainly don't need all 9s. A grade 9 is the best of the best in that particularly subject, and you are not expected to excel in every single subject at GCSE!

Cambridge has no specific GCSE requirements for most courses. They may be look at as part of your application (as all parts of the application are) but they do not routinely make offers including a GCSE component.
Most applicants tend to have fairly good GCSEs, but not all, and this is more correlation than causation and is not a requirement.

Definitely not. It is neither a hard requirement nor any sort of expectation. Both my daughters are currently at Cambridge and neither of them were close to having all 9s.

Definitely not. Having that will definitely help, but it is not a requirement.

Cambridge don't regard GCSES as much as Oxford.
Cambridge make up for this by often requiring slightly higher A Level grades than Oxford.
It's two ways of looking at merit. I prefer the Oxford way- it seems more consistently thorough to me in establishing holistically intelligent students, outside of just a few subjects, and over a longer period of time.
