Attendance

On average, how many days in a week does one attend University ?
Varies a lot from uni to uni and term to term. For me, probably about 3/4 days a week on average.

I believe for Cambridge Natural Science it's 6, in first year at least.

Hi

University attendance really depends from course to course, this is because some courses have more contact time than others and this can affect the number of days that you are in per week. In addition, some courses have different allocations of contact time, and some courses have a split between online learning and in-person lectures.

I hope this helps,

It really depends on your university and course. For example, I have around 15 hours of contact time spread over 3 days, so technically, I only need to be on campus for those. However, many students choose to come in on their non-scheduled days for independent study, group work, or library sessions.

I’d recommend checking your university’s timetable system or asking current students on platforms like UniBuddy to get a better idea of the schedule for your specific course. You can connect with a SOAS student for more information here https://www.soas.ac.uk/chat-students-and-staff

Hi!

So this will vary massively depending on your course and university, but the average is around 3 hours a day 4 days a week.

Hope this helps! Faye 🙂

Hiya!

The number of timetabled hours per week can vary depending on your university, course, and year of study. On average, students typically have around 12–15 hours of scheduled classes per week.

For example, during the last seven weeks of my mental health module, I had classes on Mondays from 11 AM to 6 PM (with an hour lunch break) and on Fridays from 9 AM to 4 PM (also with an hour lunch break). In contrast, my previous module had a different schedule Tuesdays from 9 AM to 2 PM (with an hour lunch), Thursdays from 9 AM to 2 PM (with an hour lunch), and a two-hour session on Fridays. As you can see, the schedule can vary significantly from module to module.

This year, as a third-year student, I have more scheduled hours, including dissertation workshops alongside my regular classes. If you're considering a specific course, I recommend reaching out to current students whether that's in person at Open Days or online

I hope this helps

Hi there,

As a student ambassador, I can say that the number of days you attend university in a week depends on your course, timetable, and mode of study. On average, most students have lectures, seminars, or practical sessions 3 to 5 days a week. If you are a Full-time student you should at least attend the classes 4 to 5 days per week, depending on your course structure. Some days might have only one or two classes, while others could be busier one. It’s always best to check your timetable at the beginning of the semester to plan your schedule effectively. Let me know if you need any help! 😊

Thanks & Regards,

Hi,
At the university of York you start in your first year with the most amount of contact hours and they decrease each year. So usually in your first year you will be in 4 days a week with 2 or 3 classes in a day and this is reduced as you progress to become more independent study. Of course it varies by degree but this is a fair estimate.
