Hi!! im going into sixth form next year and i want to pursue psychology in uni. the universities that i want to go to dont really look at the subjects but more the actual grades you achieve. Im not really sure what area i want to go into yet but im thinking more into therapy/counselling. My current option that I am sure about is psychology. For my second option im debating between history and politics, i currently take history gcse and i quite enjoy it and i am working at 7-8, for politics I have never studied it but all i know is that you learn mostly about uk politics and a bit of usa, and i have heard its a bit complex so im not sure if its worth doing because I dont want to risk doing bad in it, and I also dont know if its a subject that will benefit me at all. For my third option i want to do either english language or literature, im leaning more on language because it seems more interesting and its very different to gcse. in my school, english literature explores poetry, novels and drama, and also look at the historical and social impact that the pieces have while developing essay and reading skills. Whereas in english language you study the evolution of languages; how children learn to speak; ways that gender and ethnicity shape language and how language is used in media to influence, so you could say its a social science subject which is somehow relevant to psychology. My decision on this is because even though i have heard language is more compatible to psychology, ive also heard that literature is more liked by universities. Please help! <3

Hi there! I say go with what you want to do. If you enjoy GCSE history and want to pursue it, then do it. I'm doing Bio, Physics and Psychology and psychology is a fun subject when you get into it. I would say take a science as your other option and keep that. Because most unis want you to have at least 2 sciences. So whichever you find easier. In would recommend Bio, Chemistry and Psychology as they all interlink during the psychology course. This means that you can still do psychology at uni and meet the requirements while still enjoying it. And then, pick a fourth like history or politics, which you seem to enjoy as a fourth and then drop it once given the chance. Since most unis require at least 2 sciences for anything sciency based. At least the top 10ish unis do. So that's what I would recommend. Hope this helps!
