Is it worth it to apply for a consulting Graduate program at my current firm?

Hey everyone,

I'm in my final year of uni, graduating at the end of 2025, and working in an entry-level accounting role at a consulting firm. I'm thinking about applying for a Graduate program in consulting at my company in 2026, since I’m interested in making that shift and I see myself in a role within accountancy practice rather than in management accounting. The problem is, I’m worried that if I’m not successful, it could affect my career here. My managers might realise I'm not so passionate about accounting, and that could hurt my growth as an accountant.

I’m also considering speaking with my talent manager or HR, but I'm concerned that if I share my real career goals, it might affect my current position in the company if my application doesn't go through.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this!

A good manager should support your career growth, so having a chat with your talent manager or people in accountancy practice could really help. At the end of the day, it’s your career, and you’re still at uni—you have every right to explore different paths. Since you’re already in the company, your application will likely get a boost. If you put in a strong application and get someone to refer you, you’ll be in a great position. Definitely reach out and see what options are available! All the best!!!! 🙂
