Second Bachelors Degree Funding

Hi,

I have both a BA(Hons) in Architecture and a MArch Architecture. Would I qualify for a second degree funding (Maintenance Loan and/or Tuition fees) at following Birkbeck University courses:

- 2025/6 - Mathematics and Computer Science (BSc): 4-year, part-time
- 2025/6 - Computer Science (BSc): 4-year, part-time

Thank you in advance!

You should be fine. See the following:

The following under part time courses should apply:

Mathematical Sciences (CAH09)

Computing (CAH11)

What confuses me a bit is why don't you do a master's in computer science. It's a one year course and pretty much covers what you need for academic research.

I wasn’t sure if my master’s degree would affect things, but it looks like it won’t matter after all.

I’m considering a computer science master's, but most London programs aren’t part-time and have high tuition fees for a one-year course -- that’s the case with KCL, UCL, and Imperial. Other universities have low rankings or focus heavily on practical skills (and less on maths), which isn’t ideal for me since I’ve been in the industry for enough time. Others also require an academic background in computing, which is tricky because mine is in architecture.

I’m honestly not sure what the best choice is for now. Birkbeck seems promising since it also focuses on mathematics and it is very flexible with evening classes although the 4 year and being a Bachelors might not work out for me also.

Hi there, for to be eligible for support with Student Finance England for a part time course in Mathematics and Computer Science or Computer Science, these would need to qualify as an exception course and must be one of the following levels:

part time honours degree

joint honours degree

integrated masters degree.

Thanks, Stephen.
