Rejected with 30 ucas points above the requirement

I received my first decision for one of the unis I applied for. I applied for a foundation course (this one was one of my backups for if I don’t get into a non-foundation year course) which I needed 80 points to get in to. I have 114 ucas points however they rejected me- on the reason for rejection they stated that it’s because I don’t have the requirements for predicted grades to get in. I am not awaiting any grades as I took a year out of education to work so I am confused as to why they put that as the reason and also simply upset that I didn’t get in that one with excess ucas points. I am worried for the decisions to be made by the other unis I applied to now. If anybody could offer any advice or similar experiences that have happened to them that would be appreciated! :frown:

Well, the obvious questions to ask (and apologies if you've already double-checked these) are:

1. Are you sure that your UCAS application lists your qualifications, subjects and achieved grades correctly?

2. If they state their requirements in terms of grades (rather than UCAS points) are you sure that you meet the requirements in terms of grades? If they ask for AAA and you have A*A*B then although from a UCAS points perspective it might look like you've met the requirements, in reality you haven't.

3. Are there any subject requirements? Do you definitely meet those?

4. Are then any GCSE requirements? Or English Language requirements (if you're an international applicant)? Are you sure you meet those?

If, after checking all of the above (especially 2), you're still sure that you meet all of the requirements then politely contact them and suggest that perhaps they've made a mistake, given that you have actual grades which exceed the stated requirements.

Hi, Thank you for your in depth and quick reply

1.

I double checked everything, all my qualifications are there and all the dates I obtained them are correct

2.

On the official website the requirements are 80 UCAS points and A-levels at CDD (I actually have scottish qualifications and at A-level equivalent which are highers I have ABBC.)

3.

They do not list any specific subject requirements

4.

Does not list any specific GCSE requirements either

I have sent them an email requesting for clarification on what requirements I do not meet exactly. Thank you once again for your help I am incredibly confused ☹️ What makes it even more confusing is I have applied to the same course at the same uni without the foundation year which I would expect that they would reject first if I didn’t meet the requirements because the requirements are of course higher but I am still waiting on a response from that one.

Sometimes foundation courses won’t let you in if your grades are too high

You're welcome. What @MillieeM2 says above is correct. However, if that were the reason your application was rejected, then telling you that you "don’t have the requirements for predicted grades to get in" is very misleading. Hopefully their reply (when it comes) will provide some clarity.

*Phone*the Uni and ask if they have an upper grade restriction for the course.
