Why is it seen as impressive when some people get really good GCSEs/A-levels?

I’m specifically referring to those who put in a lot of work and effort and revise a lot to get good grades. This means if they didn’t revise so much then they wouldn’t have done so well. Therefore, they aren’t naturally intelligent.
I think a lot of people could make the opposite argument in that a lot of people are able to get high grades with minimal effort. Also GCSEs don’t correspond with intelligence very well, i know many people who are very intelligent but GCSEs didnt suit them really. It’s impressive when someone is able to get high grades across all their subjects whichever way they do it- either they are naturally gifted academically or they have a lot of determination and resilience to persevere and compete against those who naturally have an advantage in academics. I dont really have an opinion on which group it is more impressive for, nor which group i fall into but i think its quite a debated topic and it depends on the individuals circumstances quite a bit on whether their grades are impressive (eg someone who went to a better school has a better chance at higher grades but that’s out of their control broadly speaking).
Shakespeare says that "comparison is the thief of joy".

It may be that you are seeking some consolation for not doing well in your A levels by posting numerous threads in which you cast doubt on the achievements of others, as well as threads in which you speculate on ways in which you might game or even cheat the admissions systems of well known universities. It might be better instead to try to do better in resits, and move on.

The concept of "natural intelligence" is contentious in any event. A human born without developmental impairments has the potential to learn almost anything. Environment and education are critical in determining how well or badly a child does in academic tasks. Studying hard and revising for exams are not indicators of a dumb student who merely memorises his or her way to success. Study and revision are indicators of a well-organised student who appreciates that effort produces results. Very few people, if any, waft their way through life without making any effort.
