queen mary (london) vs exeter uni

hi guys
I received offers from both queen mary and exeter but for different course. And i am confused on which to choose from. For queen mary, i have an offer for politics and international relations : ABB / BBB with an A in EPQ ; while for exeter I have a contextual offer for Law : ABB. I am indecisive which one to choose from , i would like to know which uni would offer me a better career path or research opportunities? ( or any other things if u want haha eg experiences in campus etc)

It should be quite straightforward, depend on whether you want to do politics and international relational or law.
It is an apple to orange comparison as you are referring to different majors. But generally speaking both are good as being Russell Group unis.
Back to the fundamental, you like politics and international relations or law? Only you know, so you are the only one who can answer your own question.

thanks for the advice, i generally wanted to do politics but it seems that law in exeter has a higher rep comparing to politics in queen mary, as well law major could probably provide me better career aspects, my parents would rather me do law as well 😭

Law can get you into IR jobs. It’s honestly up to you but you should choose what you enjoy , you can look at student satisfaction rates or employment rates depending on the uni.

Hi someone_cat,

Congratulations on your offers! I am currently in my second year of studying Law and French Law, so I hope I can give you some insight into what the course is like, and what IR/politics-related stuff you can get up to outside of the course.

The course itself is highly-respected, and Exeter law graduates are often sought after by Magic and Silver Circle law firms - in fact, they visit our law careers fairs regularly! We are also Top 10 in the UK for law graduate prospects, per the Complete University Guide 2025.

The LLB Law degree is also fairly flexible despite covering several mandatory areas of law, such as criminal, tort, and contract law - in fact, your whole third year reserves room for optional credits - you can see what is available here: https://www.exeter.ac.uk/study/studyinformation/modules/?prog=law.

Equally, once you are here you can switch to a study abroad programme, where you will study at one of our partner universities. This will give you a more multinational or international view of the law, and this is something you can always bring up in job interviews. Even if this doesn't take your fancy, there are several international-focused law modules that you could do, and with the law being influenced by politics, you get to consider this symbiotic relationship in several contexts.

Of course, simply because you do law doesn't mean your whole life must be consumed by the law for the next few years. There are a few societies that you can join which focus more on politics and IR, if you're interested. I'm heavily involved with Model United Nations, but there are also societies like International Relations Society and Debating Society, as well as your political party societies (Labour, Conservative, Liberal Democrat, Greens, etc.) - these are good fun to join, and allow you to engage in other subject areas.

If there's anything more specific that you'd like to know, do reach out!

Which subject do you want to do.- because its not an obvious choice between the Unis:
QMUL - in Bethnal Green, not the safest area of London, expensive, and its not as 'top Uni' as it makes out.
Exeter - miles from anywhere else, full of public-school types and anyone into surfing.
