Cambridge Design 2025 applicants

Hello! Congratulations on the offer!

This is my dream course and I'll be applying next year. It'll be great if you can share info on your experience(s), profile and grades

What A Levels do you do?
What were your predicted grades?
Which College did you apply to? Where is the offer from?
Do you have Art background?

What super curriculars do you have?
What did you focus on in your portfolio?
What was your interview like?

Thanks a lot for your inputs - Congratulations again!!

Hi, I received an offer for design from christs college recently! I study maths, physics and graphic design at A level and the offer I received is A*AA, with the A* in maths (the same as my predicted grades).

For supercirriculars I did a week of work experience, extra reading, mentoring and a few UKMT math challenges.

As for portfolio I included a lot of drawing and painting, not necessarily of architecture, and a little from my graphic design coursework. Some of this was from my GCSE art coursework, some of it was work I had completed in my own time for fun.

Hope this helps!

I can't really say for sure as I take physics, however, looking at your combination of subjects, I can't imagine you would be at a disadvantage, especially as you have taken art! It doesn't say physics is needed on the cambridge website other than at 1 college so I wouldn't be dissuaded from applying.

Assuming 3 A-levels, the classic combination for architecture is Maths, Physics, Art. I suspect that the optimum combination for Design could be Maths, Further Maths, and Physics (similar to Engineering). Chemistry instead of physics might be a close second. The portfolio is very important particularly at interview and it is the part of the interview where you have most control of the narrative. There is lots of guidance on the website as to be what they are looking for but seems to be summed up as demonstrating consistent practice of art, with creativity and technical ability. In some ways it easier to show a genuine interest in a subject if you do this outside of the curriculum. However, learning how to think about and discuss your work is something that might need more practice if you don't study A-level art.

Hey, wonder if anyone can help as there's not a lot of info out there on design. I have a design interview in the coming days and wonder if anyone can help with interview tips. Given the multidisciplinary nature of the course, are there going to be engineering related questions, or would it just be architecture? Any interview tips would be helpful. I'm fully on top of my personal statement and portfolio, just worried if any random/ problem solving questions are going to come up. Thanks in advance

It went so well, I wasn't asked any stretching questions at all. Just basic stuff I expected so fingers x it all works out. How was yours and what college?

Went decent for me the questions and task wasn’t very complex but they did challenge my views a lot to hear my reasoning and didn’t change topics often which I’ve heard is a good sign, applied to trinity. How long was your interview?
