Go for UCL. Don't do economics or know about either of their respective courses but I definitely do know that UCL has a much higher reputation than Bath. Employers aren't going to look up economics rankings or course structures when recruiting people, they'll just see UCL or Bath and it's obvious which one will sound more impressive on paper (although must add however that Bath is not a poor university by any means). Also, you said you fancy yourself as a bit of a raver and know London's nightlife is amazing so surely its a natural choice - from an academic and social perspective. Go UCL and educate yourself on international development and demonstrate your knowledge in job interviews if this is a particualr area of interest to you; it will sound even more impressive that way. Unless international development is so important to you than I personally think UCL is a far stronger option... or you might forget this dilemna and piss off to Teddy Hall! Either way good luck

Basically I think UCL is a better uni but I'm a bit tentative about living in London. The course is also better in Bath as I can combine Econ with International development.
However, I like my clubbing, and I don't necessarily know whether Bath is going to have much nightlife, whereas obviously Londons would be amazing.
I'm just so confused :s-smilie:

What are your preferences in terms of course?
e.g. why did you apply for so many variant courses?

What are your post-uni plans?

Bath is top 10 for econ , whilst UCL is top 5. So they are both very good for econ.
wait for your Oxford reply first

I would go to UCL - it has an amazing economics and geography department, what's more, you say you like clubbing, in which case, don't go to Bath!
UC all the way. It's a phenomenal place.

My flatmate does Economics here at UCL and absolutely loves it!
The course seems pretty varied and gives a good grounding in most modules -its also a great uni with an awesome social life and location.

UC!UC!UC!

Been clubbing in Bath lately?

OP: UCL has the better 'reputation', if thats important, but its down to preference. Visit, if you can, and see what you like best. Both are good Universities and will put you in good stead.

UCL!!! A G5 uni, a really elite institution. And yes obv as you say if you could be in any city on earth at 1 a.m, London would rank pretty high on the list.

Why are you tentative about living in London? Money? You will get a higher maintenance loan to counter the increase in prices...apart from that I can't help but think that London would be amazing in every way. Also it would be easier to get a job in London, so you can actually afford to live there as a student.

Bath's a great uni, but UCL is better  and has amazing rep both here and abroad.

Oh also just thought that UCL just did amazing in the RAE for Economics (and Philosophy :p:). It beat Oxbridge, was only beaten by LSE (which lbh is to be expected) and generally was amazing .

UCL ftw!!!
I have the same problem; im stuck between doing Economics and Law at Leicester (the place i love...not the best course) or straight economics at Loughboroug. I have been told by a lot of people (undergraduates, neighbours, teachers) that employers prefer a "straight" degree. so i actually think i am going to just ask if i can do Economics at Leicester.
Why are you tentative about living in London?

They're both good for Economics, but I would go for Bath simply because I don't think the student body of UCL Econ is attractive. Based on my observation, a lot of UCL Econ students are the geeky, nerdy type who dreaded social life. Whereas Bath students are attractive, sociable and outgoing.

Don't you usually judge by prestige?

UCL Economics is better than Bath's.

MOST of the time, but not all the time.

UCL Economics is better than Bath's.

You're right, but I think only very slightly.
I agree, slightly.

But UCL have become especially elitist this year - there have been significantly more rejections than previous years. ESPECIALLY for economics courses. They're at a popular high!

They've always been quite popular, I guess. As to this year as their topmost year in terms of popularity (number of applications received), I guess you're right; I don't know. But my issue with UCL is not it's prestige for its prestige is already superb, but rather its environment and student makeup. I thought the students at Bath are friendly and very attractive. I think I will thrive in an environment like that as opposed to an environment that's full of geeks, nerds and antisocial. In other words, Bath's environment and student body supersede the slight difference in prestige that UCL has over Bath.

Please take note that this is just a personal observation.

^ Been to both campuses. Bath edges UCL in that area as well. Some of UCL's buildings are pretty run down whereas Bath has plenty of fresh air... and beautiful people.

I personally think UCL is downright ugly (no offense to anyone in particular!). And yeah, Bath is beautiful. But Cardiff and Swansea are the most beautiful campuses, in my opinion.
