A-level choices.

I’m interested in a career in either law or journalism, but i wanted to pick my options open with my a-level choices in case i change my mind.
I wanted to do english lit, psychology, and either bio/chem but I’m not sure what degrees i can do with that only needs one proper science and psychology, or if i would need to do two sciences.
Is it worth picking a science or should I just stick to my original choices of english, psychology, and either history or economics.

Hi @inaaya_22,

Your original choices: English Lit, Psychology, and either History or Economics are solid for both law and journalism, while also keeping doors open for a wide range of humanities and social science degrees. Most law and journalism courses don’t have specific subject requirements (unless you're aiming for a specific university), so these A-levels would work well.

If you’re considering a psychology-related degree, many universities accept Psychology as a science, meaning you wouldn’t necessarily need Biology or Chemistry. However, some psychology degrees (especially those accredited by the BPS) prefer at least one “hard” science like Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Maths. You might want to check entry requirements for specific unis if that’s a concern.

If you're not set on a science-heavy degree, History or Economics might be the better choice, as they keep your options broader without locking you into a more scientific route. But if you enjoy science and want to leave psychology/neuroscience open as an option, taking Biology or Chemistry could be useful.

Hope this was helpful!
