Churchill College Cambridge 2025 applicants

Hi, I was very fortunate to be pooled here today! I can't find much about the college online, could anyone who studies there or who has visited tell me more about what life is like? Tiny bit of me is disappointed that it doesn't seem like it has much of the traditional Cambridge feel, although I'm sure there will be many opportunities to visit other colleges and have more of the traditional aspect.

Also hi to any Churchill offer holders!

Hiya bit odd to be replying here - but Churchill is more around the outskirts of city centre - than central. I can't say anything about the college particularly except that it is more modern (like you have pointed out) but if you have any questions about local stuff I can try my best to help as I live in that area xx
Best of luck with everything <3

I was about to say what were you doing here 😂 Thanks for that tho, good to know it’s a bit out of the business of the centre. As you live locally do you know if there’s many sort of entertainment things in the area/or city centre (like cinemas or theatres I guess)? And are there any local shops close to the college? No worries if you don’t know the answers

Yes there are two cinemas (from my knowledge) IMAX and Vue. However not sure if Vue will close as the Grafton (shopping center) is suppose to be turned into a lab of some sorts😭 Theatres there is one in city centre that does shows (from memory)- but I'm not to up to date with that!

In terms of shops not really - it is a decent walk - there is an Aldi (Fitz students love that flex of it being close and cheap - talked to some of them it was like a prized possession - bless them) and walking further into arbury there are a few shops like iceland. I can't really draw a map here - so if you are confused do tell me 😭 if you walk into the direction of city centre there are a few cafes in bridge street and restaurants (st John's college and magdelene are enroute). Quite convient as there are bus stops located so transport wise its good - although a majority use bikes (please be careful these cyclists act like they have 9 lives😭). Churchill is sandwiched by many colleges like Murray Edwards (I have only visited Fitz before though) - and doesn't face the main road (Fitz and Murray do).

There are plenty of entertainment things to do like shopping, exploring (lots of history especially the uni itself - why was the clock stolen at one point??), theatre (I think), eating (I recommend aromi authentic silician food - I'm really shameless sorry. Boba tea - xingfu tang), there is a leisure centre up hills road - with a buffet and ten pin bowling (near homerton college). Botanic gardens is beautiful worth exploring 😉 Museums - if you are interested?

Shops - like supermarkets near the outskirts closest I think would be Iceland and Aldi. (Tescos is mainly a little one in city centre, with Sainsbury and co-op). Although there is a larger sainsbury - but its a far distance!

Girl you’re a lifesaver this is so helpful thank you!
Churchill has good vibes as a college. It's fairly STEM-heavy in terms of intake but a lot of my Churchill friends seem to really like it.

I’m sorry to hear that, I know it probably doesn’t feel like it right now but even getting an interview was such a big achievement! I hope you’re ok

After doing some googling I think it's an ugly duckling, architechture is interesting to say to least, but community and facilities are actually so much chiller, closer and more convenient than older colleges. Like we get a free gym, lots of sports fields, mini theatre, dance studio, catered dining hall and bigger rooms than other places. I am a bit disappointed at losing the traditional Cambridge feel, but I think if we join societies and make friends on our course from other colleges we'd probably still have that aspect. I still have a bit of doubt but hoping the offer holder day sells it!

Honestly I’m feeling alright about it, but yeah it can be a bit tough, my friend got rejected from christs yesterday with 3280, so it’s just my luck I guess. But I’ve gotten 2 rejections back to back so just hoping Newcastle takes me 😭
