Thanks so much for your help! That is a huge relief. So would they see a B at AH the same as a B at H? I thought that an advanced higher B was equivalent to an A at higher.

No problem! Yes, generally a b is seen as an a at higher though unfortunately that’s not the case for this. Aberdeen said this in their email “Thank you for your email, we would accept 4 Highers and 1 Advanced Higher however please note the Advanced Higher does not get graded differently than the Highers we would still need AAAAB.”
The others have both said similar

I'm choosing my S6 subjects soon and I'm debating what my 5th subject should be.
I'm hoping to apply for Medicine, UofG being my top choice. My current highers (predicted straight As) are human biology, english, maths, and music technology. I already have an A from higher music in S4. I'm going to crash higher chemistry and do both AH maths and biology next year; which leaves one slot for another subject or free block. My choice right now is between no subject, higher history, or n5 physics. Would higher history be useful for med or would n5 physics be better even though it's an N5? Or would neither still be fine as I will have my 5 highers from S4/5 + 1 in S6 (not sure if higher history would be too stressful alongside 2 AHs and crash chem)? I will be asking my guidance teachers about this too, just want some second opinions

Hi I’m in s5 I want to do medicine as well I’m doing five highers however I don’t have higher maths so I guess that’s a disadvantage but I’m thinking of picking it in s6 along with AH chem and AH bio.

Have u heard about the suttons summer school for medicine or the reach program ?they help with uni applications and they might give adjusted entry requirements.

Hi, awesome! i did look at the summer school but i am too busy to attend this year sadly :frown: however I did decide on my subjects - i'm going to take crash higher chem + AH maths and bio with a free column in the laboratory. as long as I pick up on missed N5 chem before s6 starts I should be fine (the pressure is on lol)! good luck on your med journey too

Hi,your subject choice seems good plus higher chemistry isn’t that hard to pick up even if you haven’t done Nat 5,since my school doesn’t do Nat 5 in s4 so I had to do higher chemistry without any Nat 5 knowledge but it’s going well I got myself I tutor though.😭 good luck to you aswell <3

Your subjects don't matter basically at all for medicine after you fill the minimum requirements. Every applicant has all A's at higher, two of which being sciences and the rest being decently academical.

What matters much more is your ucat score and performance in interview.
It is debatable as to whether your personal statement matters at all, past it existing, as many uni's have admitted to not even reading them.
Best of luck!

Higher Chemistry is generally a requirement, and they often want it studied alongside a science so you do need to check everywhere you intend to apply. UCAT score matters a lot but not at all if you don’t meet their academic requirements.

Yes, I know that but I'm simplifying the minimum of the minimum for someone who doesn't know anything. It doesn't always help to give too much information.
Are you applying to medicine soon?

thanks for the advice! The entry requirements are AAAAB highers by the end of S5 and ideal requirements are AAAAA(A?) by the end of S6.

From what it seems you will definitely achieve this already- and remember a B at advanced higher is an A at higher.

Not for medicine, you need the 5A's at Higher preferred at s5 and then they usually ask for just 2B's at AH.
