No because the chances of being accepted from the waiting list is low.

what about lets say one of us was given an offer on results day or something would we still be able to apply then?

How many people are still on this waiting list do you reckon? My son has another med offer but Sunderland is his preferred choice so trying to hold out as long as possible before firming his other offer (he’s very happy with his offer but it’s far from home).

If your son accepts the other offer then i think he will have to give up being on waiting list here, right? This whole process of waiting is excruciating

Yes he would. He’s very pleased to have Keele and it’s a great course and lovely uni but it is a long way and Sunderland would mean he could have the option to commute from home in later years if he wants to. So he’s holding off firming Keele until nearer the deadline as accepting would mean losing the waiting list at Sunderland. Hoping most other unis offers are now all going to be sent by the end of this week so people with multiple offers can start freeing up some waiting list offers.

I hope he gets into Sunderland then as being nearer to home definitely helps for 18 year olds.
My DD is on waiting in both Sunderland and Plymouth and nothing from Keele... we are prepping for gap year now.... asking her to do her best in A levels and then see how it goes.

I don’t believe firming up offers elsewhere means you have to give up your place on the waiting list. Did they say this anywhere?

From the waiting list email

Waiting list terms and conditions If you are successful in gaining a place on Medicine/Dentistry/Veterinarys Medicine at another institution and accept this as your firm or insurance choice, you will automatically lose your place on the waiting list Your UCAS choice will remain pending until nearer the UCAS deadline (14th May 2025) when all decisions must be submitted by colleges or universities to UCAS. After this date your UCAS choice will be rejected with Sunderland please do not panic, new communication will be issued from us as what to do next We will keep your place on the waiting list until confirmation and clearing (14th August 2025) Any places in Medicine at clearing will be filled from the waiting list You can decline your place on the waiting list at any time by emailing us at [email protected] We may contact you at any given point to offer you a place on Medicine at the University of Sunderland If we contact you post 14th May 2025 when you may have accepted other (non-medicine) choices, we will require you to forfeit these choices to accept our offer of Medicine at the University of Sunderland Being on this waiting list does not stop you taking up the offer of other waiting lists We do not require you to action anything on UCAS by accepting your place on the waiting list As a waiting list holder, you have not been issued a conditional offer, you must therefore expect to achieve our minimum offer of AAA from A-levels or equivalent, please see our website to view our entry requirements click here If you receive any autumn/winter results please provide a copy of these to us by email If you are currently studying or have previously studied Medicine/Dentistry/Veterinary Medicine at another institution in the UK or outside the UK, including foundation years please provide further details of this by email to us at [email protected] by the 3rd March 2025

I would be reasonably optimistic that one of her waiting lists comes through. The grades are going to be challenging for a lot, my son included, and many may miss their offers. I do think spaces will come through before results day too. Also don’t give up hope for Keele yet. I was at an offer holder day there on Sat and they were in the process of marking the last 70 personal statements. The main person in charge of selection and marking said they’d be interviewing into the second week of April. So hope it works out for her.
