Special support allowance

Hi I spoke to someone earlier and they said I will receive my student loan on Monday , they then said they are reviewing my special support element today and will receive back pay for that when done , what does that mean how much extra does that mean I’m entitled to and does that mean it effects my student loan ? I thought it was to do with dsa but they said it’s something separate so I’m confused

Hi Sleexo,

Special Support Loan is extra Maintenance Loan. This is normally awarded to lone parents, people who have a disability or receive certain benefits. It is also based on household income therefore, we cannot guarantee that students who meet one or more of the qualifying criteria will receive it.

If you provide the evidence we have requested, the team will review this and confirm if it's been awarded. Once approved, you will receive a new Notification Of Entitlement Letter to confirm your new entitlement amount. If you're due more finance that should have been paid, this will be back dated to you and show scheduled online under view payments. It will show how much and when this will be paid. Your future finance payments will also be updated accordingly.

Thanks,
Claire
