Cambridge offers!

Hi guys,

First of all congrats to everyone who got offers today! Just posting a question - I got pooled to Girton from Sidney Sussex which was a bit of a shock. Still thrilled none the less just a bit apprehensive. Wondering if anyone else is in a similar position or has been in my position and has any advice.
my understanding is that it just means you’ll need a bike a bit more than other colleges, so will keep fit 🚲

there is no conclusion to be drawn other than that you have met the bar for admission to Cambridge, and are to be congratulated!

I got pooled from Emma to Churchill, so I guess in a bit of a similar position as we've been taken from city centre to further out (although admittedly Girton is the furthest from the centre). These 'hill colleges' as they're called from the research I've done in the past day seem to be pretty great if not better than some of the central ones. They apparently have a tighter community, and probably only disadvantage so to say is the distance so we'll have to wake up a little bit earlier haha. At first I was worried about being a bit isolated but I think we'll get the best of both worlds as we'll have a little secluded home away from the tourism and hustle and bustle, but will mix with everyone else and still have the traditional cambridge social aspect when going into the centre for lectures, societies or formals with friends at different colleges. So I can understand it may not have been your first choice, but I think we'll end up where we need to be! Congrats on the offer!

As someone from a college that's a bit further out (although I wasn't pooled so can't fully relate to that), it definitely has its advantages! Since your lectures (and sometimes supervisions) are a bit further away, it really feels like you're "going home" when you return to your college. This leads to a better work-life balance! Also, the community is truly tight-knit, and the grounds are often more spacious/green than those of the central colleges, which can feel a bit claustrophobic in my opinion (especially courtyard colleges like St. Catharine's). I would advise getting a bicycle as walking everywhere can be inconvenient (for example, if you have a late supervision and you want to be home in time for dinner lol). Congratulations to both of you for getting in and I hope you'll get your offer grades! <3
