has anyone decided on accommodation yet? i'm struggling to choose. wanted an ensuite, but it’s so expensive </3 so i think im gonna go for the grange!

probably st john central for me, maintenance loan will defo cover it, and doesn't seem too amazing without a bathroom to yourself in the cheaper ones imo

You can't stay at university managed accommodation with someone. You're best off renting your own flat or becoming flatmates with someone in accommodation that's not university managed.

Hello Mohammad,

Unfortunately none of our university-managed accommodations are specifically for couples, as they are all for individual application. As another user mentioned, it would be best to find alternative accommodation in York if you were looking to live as a couple. Many providers offer student accommodations, which will sync rent dates with when student maintenance loans for UK students are paid, and sync tenancy dates with the beginning/end of undergraduate term time. These are typically student-only so if your wife was not also studying it may be harder to find accommodation this way - this may also not suit you if you are not a domestic student (and so don't receive loans at the times UK students are paid them) or if you are a postgraduate student. The best option in this instance would be to rent privately.

I'm pretty sure our accommodation team has some trusted links for students who are looking for accommodation of this type - if you are a current applicant and interested in learning more, email [email protected] and they should be able to help guide you to finding suitable accommodation for your time at university! If you were interested in looking individually, I'd use Rightmove, which allows you to filter options such as price range, location, and number of bedrooms. It may also be an idea to look at different letting agencies across York and see what they have available.

Hi there, Mohammad!

York St. John currently does not offer couples accommodation. However, some private providers in York do. Have a look for places offering "dual occupancy," or at renting privately in the city centre, which you may find is cheaper.

Here are some examples of private student accommodations:

The Boulevard, Student Roost

Abode, Homes for Students

Student Castle

Hello Student (who has various sites across York)

I stayed at the Boulevard with my partner in the first and second year, then for this academic year we've begun renting privately instead so that we can stay in York after graduating! Some accommodations allow non-students, so be sure to check the terms and conditions for each accommodation!
