When I went to kmms for my interview I loved the atmosphere and the people and it’s definitely my top choice from the offers I’ve got so far. But I’m quite worried about the size/newness (couldn’t think of a word ) of the school. Because it’s so new does this limit the networking opportunities and the general opportunities we would be presented with realistically ? Also on placement is it a group of students going with you? I’ve also heard a stereotype that the newer medical schools have a heavy push/ focus on primary care - does that limit our opportunities to explore different maybe more niche specialties whilst in med school ?

All medical schools are regulated...yes it may not have the prestige but at the end of the day 95% of medical students will enter the NHS and you're colleagues could be from oxford/Cambridge and will still earn the same as you!
If you love KMMS as much as you've described then go for it!!

Hi, I' Daisy, current MedSoc Pres at KMMS! I'm so glad you loved the people, I so agree. It's reasonable to think about the newness of the school, we do have a focus on Primary Care within the first 2 years. There are 6 weeks in first year and 6 weeks in second year all in primary care. After this, you spend 3rd, 4th, and 5th year in longitudinal hospital placements, going back to primary care once in 4th year and once in 5th year. I don't feel that primary care has been especially pushed on us, I think in 1st and 2nd year it was a good experience to get to know common conditions in GP and link it to my learning. I am now really enjoying hospital based placement though!

In 1st and 2nd year, you are sent on primary care placements in groups of about 6 to 10, and you will spend most of the time with 1 other person who will be your placement partner which changes every year. In y3/4/5, you are in the same hospital with about 20-50ish other KMMS students in your year. Of course this is split into smaller groups for rotation etc.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions

what are placement hours like, how long each day and what would a regular schedule look like?

Just received an offer 2 days ago and made it my firm! Quite excited on joining KMMS. I was just wondering if I could be sign posted to the right person to talk about my personal circumstances at the moment. Thank you!

Well done ! I think your best bet would be just emailing the admissions email and briefly say what you want to bring up and they could give you the appropriate email ?

Hi, when you are in Year 1 and 2, you are expected to attend your allocated practice from 9am to 5pm.

When you are in Year 3, 4, and 5, it's a bit more flexible as you will spend every day in the hospital, but attendance is not registered, you simply need to achieve all your sign-offs! for example, you have to go to a certain number of ward rounds, clinics etc. You will mostly be there every day 8/9 until the afternoon. I hope that helps!

Hi, I would email [email protected] or DM their instagram. I am currently MedSoc President so if you would want to speak to a current student you can message me any time!

Hello. Congratulations! I’m very interested in KMMS as well. I’m only in year 10 but didn’t do well in my mock exams so feel quite deflated. Can I ask what kind of gcse grades you got please? I’m not sure how flexible KMMS are .. thank you

They state minimum gcse requirements on their website. Plenty of time to work on them, lots of people improve a lot from their year 10 mocks. Good luck!
